Resident Camp Specialty Programs
Specialty Programs combine all
the activities of “Resident Camp” with a focus on one
particular activity for part of the
day. Many programs, like horses or
fishing, are available in Both “Resident Camp” and “Specialty Programs” with
the difference being the
level of focus. This is
the
best of both Worlds…Resident
Camp
Activities
plus a Specialty of your choice.
These all have limited enrollment, so don’t wait too long.

Ranch/Horse Programs

All
campers may choose to participate in horse related activities on a daily
basis during Free Periods. Trail ride Lessons, horse care, or just hanging
out at the
corral with the Wranglers, are all available.
Helmets always provided.
If you want to spend more time at the
corral;
"Ranch" or
"Circle A Riders" are for you.

Ranch - Skill
Programs

Riders (grades 4 thru 6)
Participants will spend a portion of
their day on our working ranch learning horse care and
riding techniques. Each will be given their
own horse to ride and care for under the
close supervision of our staff. Lessons, ring work, trail rides, games and
special events will fill your week. Riding lessons will take place "in
the
ring" and "on the
trail" to help the camper learn
the
ways of a horse and develop confidence and riding skills. There is also ample
time to enjoy all the other
activities at Anokijig. These programs have limited space, so register
early.

Competitive
Swim Camp
Session 4 * July 6 to July 12
This program combines all
the
activities of Anokijig with a focus on the
sport of competitive swimming. It is designed for current age-group
competitive swimmers (YMCA or U.S.S.) Joe Reischel, head coach, has 22 years
of coaching age-group competitive swimming. Former coach of South Eastern
Aquatics and currently is a YMCA Aquatics Director. Activities include two
hours per day at the pool concentrating on
stroke techniques, starts, and turns. Swimmers are video taped and receive a
written evaluation on all four strokes.

FISHING EXPEDITIONS PROGRAMS
Fishing
Expeditions I .......... Session 2 * June 22 to June 28
(Grades 4 and up) Session
5 *
July 13 to July 19
This
is an exciting program that will be filled with variety, adv enture,
and a fishing good time. We will learn to fly fish and travel to a premier
trout area where we always catch our dinner. We will night fish from a
pontoon boat looking for Northern, Bass, and Pan fish. We will use a variety
of baits from live to artificial and try new techniques. We will fish from
shore, docks, and boats. We will top the week off with a
Lake Michigan Charter trip (weather permitting) to bring
home the real big ones. If you like to fish or want to learn, this will be
the highlight of your summer. This is the best of both worlds.

Session 6 * July 20 to July 26
This
program will have all of the great activities available in Expeditions I but
geared for campers’ 7th grade and older featuring a little faster paced instruction. Grades 7 & up.

Play
“Survivor” Anokijig style.“Cable Relay", "Bocce Bowling", "Canoe Golf”, and
“Victory Plinko,” were just a few of the events that have thrilled Adventure
Challenge campers over the past two years. For 2008 we are planning another
set of all new challenges that will continue to make this program the envy
of all. Plus, when not on a challenge you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy
all of the activities in Resident camp along with some extra age-appropriate
camp privileges. Come join the challenge, for both the mind and body, as you
compete to see who will reign as this year’s champions!

Scrapbooking
Specialty Camp
Session 8 * August 3 thru August 9 |

The scrapbooking craze is sweeping the
country. Millions of people have come to enjoy this great activity. Now you
can enjoy summer camp and scrapbooking at the same time! skills and supplies
needed to creatively capture and preserve your memories through scrapbooking.
Under the instruction of a professional in the scrapbooking field you’ll
learn the art of page layout, layering, paper tearing, use of embellishment
(stickers, brads, ribbon and rub-ons), as well as journaling. There is no
right or wrong answer, it’s all about telling your story, your way! You
supply the pictures and we’ll supply all of the decorating materials.
Together with your imagination you’ll create a fine work of art that’s
all
about you!

STAMPER

This is a great way to lengthen
your stay at camp by providing a little bit of service for Anokijig.
Open to those individuals who are at least
fourteen years of age. The Stamper position is a cross
between camper and worker. Stampers
position are charged a reduced resident camp fee
in exchange for performing kitchen or dining hall maintenance duties
for portions of that week. Generally Stampers work one meal per day in
the kitchen/dining hall doing dishes and clean-up. All Stampers can also be
involved in regular camp activities with some limitations regarding Day
Trip options. Other privileges may
include extended nighttime curfew and program
opportunities.
For those whom are interest in becoming a volunteer Jr.
Staff in the future; Stamper is an opportunity to
prove your abilities and dedication. Stampers can be more likely to make
the transition to Junior Staff
positions. Work your way to a great summer camp
experience. |
