STAMPER/JUNIOR STAFF

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Camp Anokijig is constantly searching out quality staff personnel who are willing to become a part of a team in developing a quality camp program. Each staff person is looked upon as the key to the camp’s success. Only those individuals who are willing to give of themselves for others; who practice a positive way of life; and set a good example for those they will seek to work with, need complete an application for staff positions.

It must be understood that all Staff Aides and Junior Staff are volunteers and will be under the direct supervision of Camp Anokijig. Duties will vary from program activities, camper groups, kitchen duties, and maintenance projects.

STAMPER POSITION

This position is open to those individuals who are at least fourteen years of age. The Stamper position is a cross between camper and worker. By entering into the Stamper position you will be charged a reduced resident camp fee in exchange for performing kitchen or maintenance duties for portions of that week. All Stampers can also be involved in regular camp activities. Other privileges may include extended nighttime curfew and program opportunities. The Stamper position is an opportunity to prove your abilities and dedication. Stampers generally are more likely to make the transition to Junior Staff positions. Work your way to a great summer camp experience.

JUNIOR STAFF POSITIONS

This position is open to those individuals who are fifteen years of age or older and until graduation from High School. Junior Staff members’ job responsibilities have two different phases. Junior Staff are assigned to camper groups. Under the direct supervision of Senior Staff, Junior Staff will work as a counselor in training and will be in direct contact with the campers. Camper group duties include sleeping in the tents, dining hall supervision, and general supervision in the day-to-day care for the campers. The second phase of the responsibility is an assignment to a program area. Once again, under the supervision of a trained Senior Staff member, Junior Staff will assist in the teaching and supervision of the campers at the program areas. Program areas include: swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, Day Camp, trip camping, and maintenance.

Benefits from the Junior Staff program include leadership training, program skill training, room and board, and the availability of a job reference, if desired, for future employment.

VOLUNTEER WEEKENDS

Prospective Junior Staff/Stampers may also want to be involved in our volunteer program. When summer camp is not in session, Camp Anokijig becomes a retreat center. During many weekends and some weekdays, camp needs volunteers to help out with the activities offered. Duties consist of some kitchen duties and assisting in the supervision of program areas. Involvement in these off-season programs allows the potential staff member to exhibit to the camp management their skills, abilities, and potential for success in the summer program. It also greatly enhances the chances for acceptance to the summer staff.
