Resident Camp Specialty Programs

Specialty Programs combine all the activities of “Resident Camp”
with a focus on one particular activity for part of the day. Many
programs, like horses or fishing, are available in Both “Resident
Camp” and “Specialty Programs” with the difference being the level
of focus. This is the best of both Worlds…Resident Camp Activities
plus a Specialty of your choice.
These all have limited enrollment,
so don’t wait too long.

Ranch/Horse Programs
(Offered each session)
|
 |
|
All campers may choose to participate in horse
related activities on a daily basis during Free Periods. Trail ride
lessons, horse care, or just hanging out at the corral with the
Wranglers, are all available. Helmets always provided.
If you want to spend more time at the corral;"Ranch" or "Circle A Riders" are for you.

Ranch - Skill Programs
(offered each session)
Ranch (grades 7 and above) Circle A
Riders (grades 4 thru 6)
Participants will spend a portion of
their day on our working ranch learning horse care and riding
techniques. Each will be given their own horse to ride and care for
under the close supervision of our staff. Lessons, ring work, trail
rides, games and special events will fill your week. Riding lessons
will take place "in the ring" and "on the trail" to help the camper
learn the ways of a horse and develop confidence and riding skills.
There is also ample time to enjoy all the other activities at
Anokijig. These programs have limited space, so register early

Competitive Swim Camp
Session 4 * July 8 to July 14
|
|
This program combines all of the activities of Anokijig with an
added focus on the sport of competitive swimming. Designed for
current (YMCA or U.S.S.) age-group competitive swimmers, activities
include approximately two hours per day at a local pool practicing
stroke techniques, starts, and turns. Swimmers are videotaped at
each pool session and an hour at camp each morning is dedicated to
slow motion review of technique and coaching to improve for the next
session and beyond. Besides daily evaluations our experienced coach
will also give each camper a written evaluation on all four strokes
to take home. Plus, when daily swim instruction is done you’ll have
the opportunity to enjoy all of the activities of Resident Camp.

FISHING EXPEDITIONS

Fishing Expeditions 1
(Grades 4 and 5)
Session 3 * July 1 to July 7
Session 6 * July 22 to July 28
Session 8 * August 5 to August 11

This
is an exciting program that will
be filled with variety, adventure, and a fishing good time. We will
learn to fly fish and then travel to a premier
trout area where we always
catch our dinner. We’ll night fish from a
pontoon boat looking for
Northern, Bass, and Pan Fish. Experience using a variety of baits,
both live and artificial and try new techniques. We will fish from
shore, docks, and boats. Then top off the week with a Lake Michigan
Charter trip(weather permitting) to bring home the real big ones. If
you like to fish or want to learn, this will be the highlight of
your summer. Come get hooked. Grade 4 & 5

This program will have all of the
great activities available in Expeditions I, but geared for campers
6th grade and older. A little faster paced
instruction to allow time for a few more advanced techniques. Grade
6 & up.

Yoga Camp
(All Ages)
Session 4 * July 8 to July 14

In daily one-hour sessions, we'll use a fun,
creative approach to yoga that promotes strength, flexibility,
coordination and body awareness. Through breathing and visualization
techniques, kids will challenge themselves and build confidence and
self-esteem during a fun, energetic experience instructed by an
experienced registered Yoga Teacher. When not practicing yoga,
campers can enjoy all of the great recreational activities of
Resident Camp. Open to all ages.

Theater in the Woods
(All Ages)
Session 1 * June 12 to June 18

This unique theater camp gives kids a chance to
help produce, compose, and perform a theater piece created with the
guidance of veteran drama coach. Campers will explore their creative
voice by offering songs, words, or movement either as a solo or
ensemble. Original music, percussion, and dance are just a few of
the many options to develop a stunning performance. Together they’ll
help make something magical happen with characters developed with
their imaginations. Each afternoon campers can enjoy all of great
recreational activities of Resident Camp! Open to all ages.

Camp Comedy
(Boys and Girls of All Ages)

Have you ever watched one of the many sketch
comedy shows on TV and said “I could do that!”? Well here’s a chance
to give it a try. Under the direction of an experienced professional
comedic writer and actor, you’ll get to find your comic voice.
Throughout the week campers will learn the basics of improvisation,
writing, and performance, while creating their own comic sketch to
perform at the final campfire. Plus when not working on their
on-stage skills they can enjoy all of the great recreational
activities of Resident Camp!
Open to all ages.

that!” Now is your chance! “Cable Relay", "Bocce Bowling", "Canoe
Golf", "Victory Plinko”, “Tank Track”, Human
Foosball, and “Super Soma
Cube " re just a few
of the
events that have thrilled Adventure Challenge campers in the
past. Any of these and more awaits your
arrival. If you have a drive for excitement you won’t be
disappointed. Plus, when not on a challenge you’ll
have the opportunity to enjoy all of the activities of Resident
Camp. Come Join the challenge; both mental
and physical. Available to campers entering Grade 8 and up.

Drum, Drum, Drum

‘Who can resist the rhythmic sounds
of an African Drum? At the Friday Beach party you’ll
have everyone “dancing to a new beat” after you
experience this camp specialty. Daily instruction by
experienced drumming teachers will help you build skills
in numerous drumming techniques on several sizes of
drums as well as other percussion instruments. Rhythm
and sound will combined for a great time at camp. Plus
when not drumming campers can enjoy all of the great
recreational activities of Resident Camp! Open to all
ages.

STAMPER
(offered each session - limited
enrollment)
|
|
This is a great way to lengthen your stay at camp by
providing a little bit of service for Anokijig. Open to those
individuals who are at least fourteen years of age. The Stamper
position is a cross between camper and worker. Stampers are charged
a reduced resident camp fee in exchange for performing kitchen or
dining hall maintenance duties for portions of that week. Generally
Stampers work one meal per day (approximately 2-3 hours) in the
kitchen/dining hall doing dishes and clean-up. All Stampers can also
be involved in regular camp activities with some limitations
regarding Day Trip options. Other privileges may include stamper
sectional activities. For those whom are interested in becoming a
volunteer Jr. Staff in the future; Stamper is an
opportunity to prove your abilities and dedication.
Stampers can be more likely to make the transition to
Junior Staff positions. Work your way to a great summer
